Paint Jobs are a recurring feature in the Cars series, which allow a car to wear a different texture, and can be more or less appealing to the player.

Cars: The Video Game[]

Every single character that can be played as has at least 3 alternates, although almost every one has to be unlocked using 2000 to 5000 points each. Like many following games, a cheat code exists that allows the player to unlock every paintjob instantly.

Cars: Mater-National Championship[]

Paint Jobs have not changed much, and most from the past game have been brought back. Some of Lightning's paint jobs now have to be unlocked by finding a special paint can in exploration mode instead of purchasing with points. All playable characters except FillmoreSarge, and Luigi have at least one paint job, where with them, scrolling through the paint jobs will simply do nothing. Opponents will use paint jobs in all events except for Race "N" Chase, and the player can use paint jobs in any except for Team Relay races.

Cars: Race-O-Rama[]

Even though every single paint job of Lightning has been replaced, most others still reside. They are now unlocked by progress rather than being purchased or found. They also make a unique sound effect when scrolled through on the CSS.

Cars 2: The Video Game[]

Paint Jobs have been removed from the game, alternatively textured characters are now separate slots on the roster, very similar to the controversy around Pink Gold Peach in Mario Kart 8. Only difference is, they will never appear as AI. However, Paint Jobs do appear in the Nintendo DS version of the game, where they are called "Themes".

Cars: Fast as Lightning[]

Each character has at least two paint jobs, unlocked under very special conditions such as winning practice races. Paint Jobs now give each car a very special boost when worn (although this was not added until a later update), such as more speed or gained experience.

Beta Paint Jobs[]

Various unused paint jobs have been found in the coding of the games, such as an orange Fillmore and a "Rock Star" Sarge.

Paint Job Mods[]

Through use of mods, players can make their own paint jobs to use in Modded versions of games, read this to learn how.

Trivia[]

  • Tourists wear different textures when they appear, but these are actually fake, as in the files, these textures cannot be found in their directories as their paint jobs.
  • In Relay Races in Mater-National, the opponents can choose Paint Jobs, while the player cannot.
  • In Story Mode in Mater-National, Lightning can only select the Paint Jobs which are unlocked in Story Mode, and can't use the ones purchased with points in the Bonus Content section, which can only be used in Arcade Mode.
